The Privacy Exchange Manifesto: Rights, Risks, and Limits
A perspective on financial privacy, public ledgers, data collection, lawful access, provider obligations, user safety, and the limits of privacy claims.
Financial privacy can reduce unwanted exposure, but its legal scope and practical protection vary. Crypto privacy tools do not guarantee anonymity or freedom from monitoring, disclosure, sanctions, tax, reporting, verification, or other lawful requirements.
The Surveillance Economy
Every financial transaction you make is tracked, recorded, and analyzed:
- Banks share your transaction data with credit agencies, analytics firms, and governments
- Payment processors build profiles of your spending habits
- Centralized crypto exchanges report your trading activity to tax authorities
- Blockchain analytics firms trace every on-chain transaction
This is not security. This is surveillance.
Why Privacy Matters
You Would Not Post Your Bank Statements Online
Yet that is effectively what happens when you use transparent blockchains and KYC exchanges. Every counterparty can see your balance, transaction history, and spending patterns.
Financial Privacy Enables Freedom
- Political dissidents need privacy to receive donations without government retaliation
- Abuse survivors need privacy to save money without an abuser's knowledge
- Journalists need privacy to pay sources without revealing them
- Businesses need privacy to protect competitive information
- Everyone deserves the ability to spend money without being judged, profiled, or targeted
Privacy Is Not Secrecy
Secrecy means nobody can know what you are doing. Privacy means you get to choose who knows. There is an enormous difference.
The CoinExchange.Cash Approach
We built CoinExchange.Cash on three privacy principles:
1. Verification Requirements Vary by Flow
Some wallet-first flows may not request a name, address, ID, or selfie, but a wallet address is not anonymous and product, AML, activity, or jurisdiction checks may still apply.
2. Non-Custodial Architecture
Wallet-first flows may reduce platform custody, but custody, escrow, release, refund and dispute behaviour depend on the enabled product and its displayed terms.
3. Privacy-First Products
- CXCash: a privacy-focused asset designed for reduced public on-chain linkage; review its current technical and privacy documentation
- P2P Trading: direct peer-to-peer trades, with privacy and record-keeping varying by flow, wallet, activity and applicable requirements
- Slots: gaming features whose fairness, availability and verification requirements depend on the enabled product and applicable rules
- Prediction markets: availability and verification requirements vary by activity, jurisdiction and applicable rules
The Right to Transact
We believe in a future where:
- You can buy coffee without Visa knowing about it
- You can donate to a cause without your bank flagging it
- You can save money without a corporation building a profile on you
- You can trade crypto without submitting a passport scan
Financial privacy is not a feature. It is a fundamental right. And we will continue building tools that protect it.
